Johannesburg - South Africa is on the brink of a precipice under the rule of the ANC.

This is according to Athol Trollip, federal chairman of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Trollip was addressing the thousands of supporters attending the official opposition’s march for jobs in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday.

Trollip, the DA's mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, labelled President Jacob Zuma a “jobs wrecking ball”, saying they were hellbent on taking over the ANC-run metros of Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Nelson Mandela Bay.

He said people were descending in droves on the Western Cape, where the DA governs, in search of economic opportunities.

The country was on the brink of a precipice under ANC rule, he said.

Job creation is at the core of the DA electioneering for the upcoming local government elections.

DA Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba said they were marching because the gap between the rich and poor had widened.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane issued a stern warning to government, saying its days were numbered.

He said the march was the beginning of a struggle for jobs in the country, where unemployment is sitting at 25.5 percent.

“We must unite behind the struggle for economic opportunities,” Maimane said.
