East London - Lawyer Dali Mpofu was stabbed and robbed on an East London beach on Thursday, SABC television news reported.

He was walking along the beachfront when a group of men confronted him, took his cellphone and stabbed him several times. He was in a stable condition in hospital.

He is representing the miners involved in last year's shooting in Marikana, North West. The SABC reported he was on a short break as the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the shooting would resume next week. - Sapa
