Reward offered for metro cop’s killers

Cape Town – The metro police officer killed by two armed attackers in Eerste River on Monday has been identified as Constable Ben Koopman, Cape Town Metro Police Deputy Chief Yolande Faro said.

“He was 53 years old, married with three children,” said Faro.

“The City is offering a reward of R50 000 for anybody with information.”

Koopman was shot dead near his home in Devon Park, Eerste River, just after 3pm on Monday afternoon.

The matter was being investigated by the South African Police Service.

SAPS spokesman Andre Traut said the officer was shot by two armed suspects who fled with his service pistol and hand-held radio.

“The deceased was on duty and dressed in uniform at the time of the incident,” Traut said.

“The circumstances surrounding the murder are being investigated and any person with information regarding the matter is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
