Football’s bad boy Jabu “Pule” Mahlangu and musician/comedian Oscar “Madluphuthu” Mgudlwa have been arrested for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Sources close to Mgudlwa and the former Kaizer Chiefs star confirmed to The Sunday Independent that the two were behind bars after being found in possession of a stolen car on Friday night.

The white VW Jetta 5 was stolen during a housebreaking in Wright Park, Springs, last month.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou refused to give names of the four suspects arrested and said they could only release the names after their court appearance on Monday.

“We can confirm that one of them is a well-known soccer player and the other is an artist,” Ndou said.

Vehicle recovery company Netstar picked up a signal and police were alerted and gave chase.

“During the housebreaking, car keys, the vehicle keys, laptop and other house appliances were stolen and the case was opened at Springs police station,” Ndou said, adding that there was nobody in the house when the goods were stolen.

Ndou said the four suspects, aged between 27 and 34, were arrested on the M1 highway on Friday night after a high-speed chase with Netstar on the N12 highway, Benoni.

“During the chase, the vehicle recovery company lost the stolen motor vehicle.

“However, the Joburg flying squad spotted the same motor vehicle along the M1 highway and pulled it over,” Ndou said.

He added that enquiries were made and it was confirmed that the car was stolen. The suspects were arrested.

The four will appear at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court tomorrow,. and face a charge of possession of a stolen car.

Mgudlwa, who lives in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni first made his appearance in a Zulu drama about a cruel father who was jealous of his wife’s attention towards their disabled son.

This month Sunday World reported that Mahlangu was down and out – he didn’t have a car, a cellphone or a house, and was now staying at his grandmother’s house, which is also a shebeen, in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

It was also reported that he was using a Fiat Palio belonging to his wife to travel around.

Mahlangu was quoted as saying: “I am working on fresh and innovative projects with my wife. I still want to make money in football to support my family.”
