Cecilia Makiwane Hospital matron Lulama Geleba said the number of fatalities had risen to 12 following the death of Mawethu Mqala, 28, on Monday morning.

She said Mqala died while being transferred to the St Dominic Hospital after her family requested the move.

One of the victims, who suffered a fractured ankle, would undergo an operation to remove a bullet.

Geleba said the 18-year-old Mooi sustained a spinal injury and had been left permanently paralysed from the waist down.

The teenager would be transferred to Cape Town for further treatment.

Off-duty security guard Bulelani Vukwana went on the rampage on Sunday after the relationship with his girlfriend Noluvuyo Mbenya collapsed.

Mbenya's father was among the victims.
