The African National Congress Chief Whip in the Gauteng legislature has been cleared of sexual harassment allegations, the party said on Saturday.

An ANC member of the provincial legislature brought a formal complaint of sexual harassment against Mandla Nkomfe to the party's provincial working committee last month.

ANC provincial general secretary David Makhura said a task team was appointed to investigate the allegations.

"The task team did its work over two weeks and received submissions and interviewed the affected parties and witnesses," Makhura said in a statement.

The task team found that allegations of sexual harassment against Nkomfe lacked substance and factual basis to formulate any charges.

"The provincial executive committee unanimously accepted the findings and conclusion of the Task Team and regards the matter as closed," Makhura said.

He said all the affected parties had unreservedly and unconditionally accepted the findings. - Sapa
