Port Elizabeth - Police in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of a baby, approximately one to two months old, buried in the sand on a beach in Summerstrand.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said it was alleged that on Sunday at about 9am, a resident was walking her dog on the beach when her dog ran off. Naidu said the dog found the partially buried baby in the sand.
"At this stage, the race and sex of the child cannot be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition. Police have opened an inquest pending the results of the post mortem report," said Naidu.
Police appealed to the communities to assist in tracing the parents of the child.
