Port Elizabeth - East London police in the Eastern Cape are investigating a case of arson after a shop in the Oriental Plaza burnt down on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala said the incident happened during the early hours of the morning and no arrests had been made.

She said the estimated damage was estimated at R3.5 million. Mqala said the fire department managed to stop the blaze before it could spread to other stores at the shopping centre.

"The owner Mr R Bamjee was at the crime scene and mentioned that the premises was used for the storage of mostly electronic equipment."

Mqala said that no injuries were reported.
