King William's Town -  A 26-year-old murderer was sentenced to two life terms behind bars by the Grahamstown High Court, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

According to a police statement, Sipho Maurice Mtwebana, was sentenced to an additional ten years for the 2016 murders in Cradock.

Police spokeswoman, Lariane Jonker,  said the accused shot his 22 year old ex-girlfriend, as well as her 22 and 25-year-old male companions.

"The accused met three friends in a passage that connected Nyanda Street and Sikulu Street in the Lingelihle Township of Cradock," said Jonker.

Jonker confirmed that the ex-girlfriend survived after a bullet only grazed her head but her two male companions were both killed in the shooting.

Jonker said Mtwebana's sentences will run concurrently.
