Man sentenced to 18 years behind bars for rape of girl, 15

Johannesburg - A 33-year-old man was on Thursday, sentenced to 18 years imprisonment by the Willowvale Regional Magistrate's Court for raping a 15-year-old girl, Eastern Cape police said.

Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said that Masindi Makekeleshe raped the girl when she was on her way to church on Auguat 29, 2015, at around 8pm in the Shoma Location, in Chafutweni Village, Willowvale.

"The victim came across the accused who proposed love to her. The proposal was rejected and the accused became angry. He [pushed] the 15 year old girl down and raped her," Manatha said. 

"A motorist who was driving not far from the scene saw what was happening. He phoned the Willowvale Police who responded expeditiously. Police found the accused still committing rape at the scene. The accused was then arrested and charged with rape."
