King William’s Town – Three people, all members of the same family, died and several other people were injured in a crash between a car and a minibus taxi on the N2 near Thanga Village in the Butterworth area at about 1pm on Saturday, Eastern Cape police said.
It was believed that the Toyota Quantum minibus taxi was coming from the direction of Butterworth and the car from Dutywa, spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said on Sunday.
“The three occupants of the sedan car, namely the 59-year-old driver, who was a man, and two female passengers aged 27 and 24, died on the spot. A fourth male passenger whose age could not be confirmed was seriously injured and rushed to Butterworth Hospital, he said.
Thirteen people in the taxi, including the driver, were also injured. They were all treated and then discharged from Butterworth hospital.
The cause of the accident was not known at this stage. Msobomvu police were investigating a case of culpable homicide, Manatha said.
