Johannesburg - A teenager is being sought by police for allegedly killing a mourner who came to his home to offer her condolences in Mapetla, Soweto.

Police are looking for the 17-year-old who fled after he allegedly stabbed the 44-year-old woman to death.

A neighbour said the youth’s mother died in the Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Jabulani, Soweto, a few days ago.

The woman was a friend of his mother.

Moroka police spokesperson Captain Mpande Khoza said the incident happened at about 10am on Tuesday.

He said the woman, from Naledi, had gone to the house to pay her respects following the passing of her friend.

“When she entered the house, the rest of the family had already left for the mortuary. She found the youth inside.

“It is unclear what happened in the house, but the neighbours said that they heard screams and the boy was seen running from the house.

“When the neighbours went inside to see what had happened, they found the woman’s body with multiple stab wounds.

“She had a plastic bag over her head,” Khoza said.

The police were summoned to the crime scene. When they arrived, they started searching for the teenager, but couldn’t find him.

Khoza said a murder docket had been opened and that the search for the suspect

continued.

The neighbour said she was shocked when she heard about the stabbing.

“He is a very sweet child. He would greet me all the time and showed respect. I have never heard anyone say they had a problem with him.

“I don’t know why he killed the woman. I think it is Satanism,” the neighbour added.

She said the teenager might have felt lonely and hurt after his mother’s death.

Khoza appealed to anyone with information on the teen’s whereabouts to call Colonel Wayne Ellepen on 0115270000 or their nearest police station.
