Durban - A marble shot through a car window, in a road rage incident on Thursday, injuring a small child sitting in the back seat.

The father, who did not want to be named, said his four-year-old daughter was still in shock at what had happened. He said that he had been driving on the Gillooly’s Interchange near Bedfordview when he noticed a white Fiat driving very close behind him.

He said he applied brakes to show the driver that he was driving too close. The man behind the wheel made hand gestures at him and the father retaliated by putting his finger to his head telling the other driver to think.

“He started to drive erratically behind me trying to pass into the left lane, but he was not able to as there was too much traffic.”

The driver of the Fiat did eventually move into the left lane when the father heard a large thud in his car and he saw the window where his daughter was sitting at the back had been smashed.

“My daughter had been sleeping. She woke and began to cry as she had been cut by the broken glass,” he said.

The man said he assumed that a bottle or piece of metal had been thrown at the car, but he later found a marble in the car.

He said his daughter did not have any marbles and he believes the men in the Fiat had used something like a paint ball gun to shoot the marble at his car.

He opened a case at the Bedfordview Police Station.

After the window had been shattered, the father managed to take a picture of the Fiat’s number plate and he contacted crime-fighting organisation eBlockwatch for help.

Founder Andre Snyman said they had traced the ownership of the Fiat to a car rental agency, Move a Car. A manager confirmed that a staff member had been driving the car on Thursday afternoon.

Owner Dean Lawson said he had contacted his attorney and would not comment.
