Grade 10 learner suspended after allegedly raping Grade 8 pupil

Johannesburg - The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) said Monday, that a Grade 10 boy had been suspended following an alleged rape incident at a Benoni school.

"Counselling was offered to both affected learners and will continue accordingly, victim to be placed in another school and supported with all study material....investigate allegations that the perpetrator allegedly raped other two learners at the same school," the department said was the action that would be taken by the school.

This incident follows the discovery of the sexual assault of 87 learners by a scholar patroller at a Soweto school and another one in Pretoria.

 

"Sadly, we want to inform about another rape incident involving a Grade 8 and 10 learners at a Benoni School, which occurred on Saturday, 14 October 2017."

The GDE said it was alleged that learners organised a farewell function outside the schooling environment, at a park in Benoni, the victim (Grade 8) who was under the influence of alcohol was offered a toilet by the boy learner who resided next to the said park allegedly raped the girl learner," the department said.

"A case was opened at the police station and the boy was arrested, released into parents’ custody."
