Johannesburg – State Prosecutor Louis Mashiyane submitted to the South Gauteng High Court on Tuesday that Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir, Desai Luphondo and Siboniso Miya should be each sentenced to 28 years imprisonment for drug dealing, attempted murder and kidnapping.

Mashiyane made the suggestion during sentencing. He said the case was of public interest and that all six accused were wealthy.

Three of the accused Warrant Officer Samuel Maropeng, Jan Mofokeng and George Nthoroane were Hawks employees, who Mashiyane said had betrayed their employers like Judas betrayed Jesus in the Bible for his own selfish reason.

“The legislature expected them to be beyond reproach and have been convicted of serious charges,” Mashiyane said,” None of them are remorseful and are still denying that they did the crime which amounts to contempt to court.”

He added that the men were part of a well organised syndicate, as their deals involved people from various areas which included KwaZulu-Natal, Port Elizabeth as well as Australia.

“Some of the people still haven’t been arrested, they aren’t small time dealers delivering from one small village to another.”

Mashiyane told the court that Krejcir had said that no police officer in South Africa could arrest him and Luphondo said they had used SAPS technology to commit their crimes.

“Accused one is arrogant and disrespectful to South African law,”said the prosecutor in apparent reference to Krejcir.

In October 2015 Krejcir was found guilty of ordering the kidnap and torture of Bheki Lukhele, whose brother, Doctor, had allegedly disappeared with 25kg of tik. Doctor worked at a cargo company at OR Tambo International Airport.

Sentencing continues.
