The Tshwane metro municipality has told residents to fetch water from tanks installed at different parts in the city, an official said on Wednesday.

“People must please bring their own containers if they want to fill up water bottles,” spokeswoman Dikeledi Phiri said.

Residents in Sinoville, Annlin, Dorandia, Pretoria North, Wonderboom and areas along the R101 up to Rooiwal were without water on Wednesday morning due to a damaged water pipe.

“The tanks will remain until the water provision to the (affected) areas has been restored,” said Phiri.

She said full water supply was expected to be restored on Wednesday evening Ä a shift from the afternoon deadline given earlier by the municipality.

“The city’s water and sanitation division indicated that they will release water into the system at a very slow rate to prevent damage due to pressure in the system,” said Phiri.

The interruption was caused on Tuesday by workers who accidentally dislodged a 600mm pipe in the Annlin suburb.

This resulted in a substantial amount of water escaping from the reservoir and flooding an estimated 30 homes. - Sapa
