Johannesburg - A 10-year-old boy narrowly escaped death when a 48-year old man tried to hang him from a tree on Tuesday.
The youngster was among a small group of boys who were throwing stones at birds in a tree inside a garden at a house in Rondebult, Ekurhuleni. The boys’ actions angered the man, who chased after them.
After catching one of them, he reached for a rope and tried to hang the boy.
“Witnesses say he was seen with a rope trying to hang the boy from a tree,” police spokesman Sergeant Phora Nkuna said.
The boy‘s life was spared when a passer-by saw what was happening and shouted to the man to let go of the boy. The boy was taken then to a nearby hospital for a check-up.
The man appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of attempted murder.
