Mayhem as trailer carrying corpses gets stuck on M1

Johannesburg - Police on Wednesday confirmed they were attending to a scene on the M1 South near Braamfontein after a trailer carrying corpses got stuck on the highway. 

Reports emerged earlier that a trailer reportedly carrying 16 adult corpses and 26 stillborn babies was stuck on the highway after the its wheels came off. 

The truck was believed to have been travelling from Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital

City of Johannesburg member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for Public Safety Michael Sun tweeted an image of the covered up trailer, adding that it was stuck near the Smith Road exit.

He also added that Johannesburg metro police officers were at the scene, attending to the incident.

JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendant Wayne Minnaar confirmed the incident, adding that JMPD officers were on the scene attending to it.

He was however, unable to provide more details at this stage, adding that a statement would be released shortly.
