Johannesburg - A man was killed and three others injured after a light motor vehicle and bakkie collided in Randfontein, paramedics said on Tuesday.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at the R41 and R28 intersection.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with another service, arrived at the scene to find a wrecked light motor vehicle on the side of the road.

A bakkie was found parked a short distance away.

"Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the driver, a man, lying outside his light motor vehicle. Two other people, a man and woman, were found seated inside the vehicle.

"A fourth patient, from the bakkie, was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries."

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the man passenger had sustained critical injuries while the two others had sustained moderate injuries.

Meiring said the patients were treated for their injuries and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions.

After some time, the critically injured patient’s vital signs rapidly diminished and CPR and further advanced life support interventions were initiated in an effort to revive the patient.

"Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned and the man was pronounced dead by another service.

"The remaining patients were later transported to Lenmed Randfontein for further treatment."

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
