PICS: Cops probe culpable homicide after deadly Limpopo bus crash

Mookgopong - Limpopo police on Monday confirmed they were investigating a case of culpable homicide following a bus crash that claimed 11 lives and left dozens of people injured. 

The crash happened on the N1 highway near Mookgopong in the early hours of Monday morning as the bus was travelling from Zambia to Gauteng. 

According to the Limpopo Transport department, the bus overturned after its tyre burst, killing 11 people and leaving 30 people injured. 

The road was closed following the accident but has since been reopened to traffic. 

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the bus had 55 passengers and five drivers at the time of the accident. 

None of the drivers were killed in the crash. 

"All the drivers and the passengers who sustained serious injuries were taken to various hospitals for medical treatment," he said.

The identification process of all the deceased is still unfolding. 

Ngoepe said the cause of this accident is not clear at this stage but that a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.
