Johannesburg - First National Bank said on Tuesday it had issued over 120 000 smart national identification cards and passports through its branches since the start of a partnership with the department of Home Affairs.
Through the partnership, South Africans book through the Home Affairs’ online portal before visiting an FNB branch.
“The partnership is in line with our approach of continuous innovation to provide services that play a playing a meaningful role in society," FNB Points of Presence CEO Lee-Anne van Zyl said.
"In addition, identification is an essential part of banking, therefore, this service becomes much more essential in South Africa’s quest to broaden financial inclusion."
Other innovations FNB has introduced include a cashless automated teller machine (ATM) which accepts biometric identification, as well as functionality that allows consumers and businesses to open a bank account with a selfie through the bank’s App.
