Johannesburg - A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in Douglasdale in connection with a decomposing body found in the boot of a car parked at Montecasino at the weekend, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.

“She was arrested last night (Tuesday) and will appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court after midday (Wednesday),” Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

The body was discovered on Sunday after security guards noticed a foul odour coming from the car, which had been parked at Montecasino for several days.

Police checked the vehicle's registration number, and discovered that the car had not been reported stolen. Dlamini said on Monday that police wanted to interview the owner of the car.

It was subsequently discovered that the corpse in the car was that of the car's owner.

Dlamini said that police investigations led to the arrest of the woman. He could not divulge further details because the investigation was at a sensitive stage. - Sapa
