Durban - The bruised and battered body of 10-year-old Clairwood boy, Luyanda Msomi, was found in the dense bush of south Durban after a long search, on Saturday afternoon.

Luyanda and his best friend, Njabulo Mankayi, disappeared last Tuesday. The pair were last seen heading home aboard a bus, after school.

After a four-day-long search, officers from the SAPS Search and Rescue unit in Durban and the K9 unit were called out to Montclair, early on Saturday afternoon.

There, they recovered Luyanda’s body from a thicket atop a steep embankment on Dove Crescent.

Information received from two women arrested in connection with the boys’ disappearance, has led police to the M7 canal where they have been searching for Njabulo since Saturday.

However, on Sunday he had still not been found.

Education spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa extended his condolences to the boys’ loved ones.

“We are shocked and saddened by this barbaric act and will be reaching out to their families,” he said. “We take solace in the fact that the suspects have been apprehended and hope to see justice take its course,” he said.
