Anger over sex toy found in KZN family park

It’s the last thing you would expect to come across at a play area in a family park - which is why a Morningside parent was infuriated by the sight of a sex toy and used condoms at Mitchell Park.

Abdullah Osman, whose grandchildren visit the park - a popular spot for family picnics - noticed the items last week. A week earlier he had also seen discarded condoms.

“This makes me really angry, especially because this is a family park and there are always children playing here. No parent would want their child exposed to these disgusting items.”

Ward councillor Martin Meyer said other residents had also informed him of what was happening.

“I have received many complaints from the residents to look into this, which I have done. Law enforcement at the park needs to be bucked up and I have approached the relative parties to attend to it.”

With no security patrolling the park at night, anyone can enter the fenced property.

There were no plans for security guards to be stationed at Mitchell Park at night, said the city parks department’s head Thembinkosi Ngcobo. - Sunday Tribune
