Durban boy, 8, killed after goalposts fall on him

Durban - An eight-year-old boy died after goalposts fell on him during a soccer match in Durban, paramedics said on Friday.

The incident happened on Friday night at 6.04pm at a sports club in Durban North.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said Netcare 911 responded to reports of a head injury at the sports club.

"Reports from the scene indicate that the eight-year-old boy was busy playing soccer when the goal posts fell over, crushing the patient.

"A full advanced life support resuscitation was initiated. However the child's injuries were to severe and he was sadly declared deceased on the scene," he said.

Herbst said the circumstances leading the incident were being investigated by the Durban North South African Police Service (SAPS) who were on the scene.
