The latest Lotto millionaire who netted a massive R25 million payout during the weekend is a single man who lives in the south of Durban.

On Tuesday national lottery operator Gidani said that the mechanic, who is in his 30s and who preferred not to be identified, got all six jackpot numbers correct “to rake in a fabulous and fantastic R25m”.

Gidani spokesman Thembi Tulwana said that the regular player had bought a R40 “quick pick” ticket, which instantly catapulted him to the status of a multimillionaire.

The man had been watching the Lotto draw live on television on Saturday, when he realised he had won. He burst into tears when he realised what had happened, she said.

The man claimed his prize on Monday and “he described the unease he had when his ticket was validated as he no longer was sure whether he had won or not”.

“Top on his grocery list is to fulfil one of his biggest dreams to purchase a house; however, he has not yet decided on what to do thereafter,” said Tulwana.

Gidani provided emotional counselling and facilitated financial advice sessions with major banks for big winners.

Most winners preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons and because they did not want “everyone knocking on their door looking for money”, Tulwana said. - The Mercury
