PIETERMARITZBURG - Three people died and another was critically injured when a bus and a car collided head-on on the N3 at Ashburton, near Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday evening, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 responded just after 6pm to reports of a serious collision on the N3 northbound between Lynnfield and Ashburton, Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said.
"Reports from the scene indicate that a bus with approximately 120 passengers left the road and had a head-on collision with a light motor vehicle travelling in the opposite direction."
Three people from the car were declared dead on the scene, and another sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital under the care of an advanced life support paramedic.

All necessary authorities were on the scene to investigate, Herbst said.
