Durban - The Palmiet River burst its banks affecting more than 20 families living in Durban’s Quarry Road informal settlement last night.

A heavy downpour caused the river, flowing through Clare Estate, to flood, affecting shacks built nearby.

Lizo Mpongo, a community leader at the settlement, said this morning families had slept in pathways on higher ground between shacks.

“People are sitting outside with no place to sleep. If anyone can assist with food or old clothes I would appreciate that,” he said.
