Johannesburg - A 30-year-old teacher appeared in the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for the murder of another teacher, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Colonel Jay Naicker said the case against Asamkele Odwa Nompumza was postponed to June 11 for further investigation. Nompumza would be remanded in custody.

Nompumza was arrested on Wednesday after police discovered the body of 26-year-old teacher Cebisile Khoza in a sugarcane field in Harburg in May. Khoza, who taught at a school in Muden, was reported missing in Greytown.

“She was allegedly kidnapped, stabbed multiple times and set alight. Police recovered a two litre container with petrol next to her body,” Naicker said on Wednesday.
