Durban - A woman has been left critically injured after falling from the balcony of an apartment block in the upmarket beachside suburb of Umhlanga, north of Durban.

 

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said the woman was found in an enclosed area in an apartment on the ground floor of the block, on Thursday.

 

Dollman said reports from the scene indicated she had fallen from the balcony above .

 

Paramedics from the Netcare 911 Rescue Unit had to use a ladder to climb over the high walls to gain access to the patient, said Dollman.

 

“Advanced Life Support paramedics attended to the woman, believed to be about 30 years old. She was unresponsive and in a critical condition,” he said.

 

Dollman said she the patient was placed on a ventilator at the scene before being transported, under the constant care of the paramedic, to hospital.

 

He said the incident and its preceding events still needed to be investigated.
