Johannesburg - Using the slogan "be the legacy", citizens and leaders globally came together to commemorate the centenary of struggle icon Nelson Mandela.

Mandela Day is commemorated on the former statesman's birthday - July 18 - and encourages citizens from all walks of life to spend at least 67 minutes making a difference in the lives of others.

The day has also seen leaders, organisations and government entities heed this call and go out into their communities and make a difference.

From former US president Barack Obama's lecture, held at the Wanderers Stadium, to President Cyril Ramaphosa's unveiling of a new clinic in Mvezo, here's a look at how citizens and leaders alike commemorated the centenary.
