The mother of the three-year-old boy who disappeared from his home in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, says she has given up hope of finding her child.

Oyama Dludla disappeared on Saturday.

"I do not know what to do and I am very sad that my child has gone missing. After so many days, who knows what has happened to him?" said Nombongo Dludla.

Oyama lived in K44 Mjandana Street with his grandmother, not far from where his mother lives.

Dludla said that on the day of his disappearance, Oyama had been left in the care of a seven-year-old cousin while his grandmother went to hospital to fetch a young woman who had just given birth.

Oyama had been playing outside the last time he was seen by his cousin who had been looking after him.

Dludla said that while searching for Oyama on Saturday a woman from Kayamandi told her that the boy had been at her house but had cried for his parents.

"The woman told me that she had given food to Oyama and because he would not stop crying she let him go.

"I don't know what to do anymore," said Dludla.

Captain Rene Matthee of Kayamandi police station said the child had been reported missing around midday on Saturday. Matthee said they were doing all they could to find the missing boy.

Police said Oyama had been wearing a pair of blue shorts with a green strip on one side and a green T-shirt.

He has a scar above his right eye and another on his waist.

Anyone who has seen the three-year-old or has information regarding his whereabouts should call Detective Constable Stephen Adams on 021 809 9140 or 079 854 2680.
