The president's head of communications, Murphy Morobe, will leave his post at the end of the month to become the chief executive officer of Kagiso Media, the company announced on Tuesday.

Current CEO Roger Jardine has been appointed as executive director, said Johnson Njeke, deputy chairman of Kagiso Media and group managing director of Kagiso Trust Investments.

"We are honoured to have attracted Murphy Morobe as our new CEO of Kagiso Media and are confident that his insightful understanding of the strategic imperatives in our business will equip him in making a significant contribution to Kagiso Media," Njeke said.

On accepting his appointment, Morobe commented: "I look forward to leading Kagiso Media at this exciting time in the South African media industry. I am confident of the sustainable growth prospects for Kagiso Media as the sector enters a new era."

In addition to his political background and communication acumen, Morobe served as chairman of Ernst & Young between 2001 and 2005 and was chairman and CEO of the Financial and Fiscal Commission from 1994 to 2004.

He was on the board of several companies and institutions, including the Johannesburg Housing Company of whose board he had been chairman for the past two years, Kagiso said. - Sapa
