Nelspruit - Mpumalanga community safety MEC Vusi Shongwe on Tuesday called for a high-level investigation into the disappearance of about 40 rhino horns.
“We need to intensify our efforts as members of justice, crime and security cluster and ensure that those who are involved in poaching rhino are urgently brought to book so that we intensify the war against the scourge,” Shongwe said.
Around 40 rhino horns were stolen from the safe of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency on Sunday.
Shongwe appealed to residents to help government by coming forward with information that would help with the arrest of the culprits and ensure a successful conviction.
He also called on game reserves to heighten security.
