Barberton - Three people - two adults and a baby - died when a truck veered off the R40 at Bulembu Road in Barberton, Mpumalanga, on Thursday, ER24 said.

“The truck rolled several metres down the embankment and caught alight as well,” the paramedic service said in a statement.

The bodies of the three victims were found after members of Working on Fire and other emergency services extinguished the blaze.

“A woman in her 20s, believed to have been ejected when the vehicle rolled, was found lying several metres away from the truck that was in pieces. Upon assessment it was found that she sustained multiple severe injuries. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for her,” the statement said.

“The body of a man, believed to be the driver of the truck, and a baby were found beneath some of the truck debris.”

Police were on scene investigating the cause of the accident.
