Angry community torches three houses after teenage girl goes missing

Rustenburg -Three separate houses were set alight in Rustenburg following the disappearance of a teenage girl, North West police said on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau said police were investigating cases of arson after the houses were torched on Tuesday night at Rustenburg East End.

"It is alleged that members of the community were accusing the owners of the houses [who are foreign nationals] of being responsible for the missing 14-year-old minor. No one has been arrested and the situation is calm at this stage. The police are still looking for the missing child."

One of the three houses torched in Rustenburg East End following the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl from the area.

She said police in Rustenburg were request members of the community to assist in tracing Gomolemo Karabo Haraba, 14, of Buiten Street, East End in Rustenburg.

Gomolemo is a learner at Rustenburg Technical High School. She was last seen on the afternoon of November 3, on her way home after school. She was reported missing to the police on November 5.

"The police request anyone with information that may lead to successful tracing of Gomolemo to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Ernest Modise on 060 967 3932 or 073 189 9343."
