Kimberley - The newborn baby, found dead in an open piece of veld between Otto and Van Reenen streets in Homestead on Monday afternoon was murdered.

The police on Tuesday have confirmed that a case of murder is being investigated. The body of the baby was found on Monday afternoon at about 2.45pm.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majang Skalkie, said that the initial inquest had been changed to a murder charge following the outcome of a post-mortem on the body of the baby.

“The baby sustained stab wounds to his neck,” Skalkie said. She confirmed that the body of the newborn child was found on Monday, wrapped in a pink towel, curtain and blue and white table cloth.

“The police are investigating a charge of murder. No suspect has been arrested yet,” said Skalkie. She appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Thomas Ashley, of the Roodepan police on 082 495 4625.”
