There's to be no cheer for Woody Harrelson fans - the popular actor is not coming to Cape Town next week as expected.

Harrelson, known for his roles in Cheers and Natural Born Killers, was due to participate in the Natural and Organic Products Exhibition at the Cape Town International Convention Centre next weekend.

Exhibition director David Wolstenholme said Harrelson had accepted a role in a play in London and rehearsals start next weekend.

"As organisers, we are saddened by the cancellation of Woody Harrelson's participation. We had already committed to airline tickets and a hotel booking.

However, we also have to be realistic and realise that actors of Woody's stature are offered parts in films and plays. That's how they make their money and we were getting him free."

Harrelson's documentary Go Further, made exclusively available at no cost, will still be screened at the exhibition.

Harrelson is one of Hollywood's most vocal and controversial environmental activists.

Former racing driver and now organic beef producer Jody Scheckter is still scheduled to take part.

He will present a session at the Go Organic workshop on October 14 for South African farmers wanting to meet the European industry boom.
