Three gunmen hijacked Aubrey Mokoena, a member of parliament and the chairman of the Correctional Services parliamentary portfolio committee, outside his home in Orlando East, Soweto, on Friday night.

This was the second attack this week on a Portfolio Committee head in Soweto, during a 48-hour time frame, and both men drove the same make of vehicle.

But Soweto police spokesman, Superintendent Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, said police were "at this stage not investigating a link" between the attacks".

Duma Nkosi, who chairs Parliament's Minerals and Energy Portfolio Committee was gunned down and seriously wounded on Wednesday night.

Mokoena told Sapa he had stopped outside his house at around 9.15pm when three armed attackers ordered him out of his dark green Volkswagen Polo Classic.

"They made me lie prostrate on the lawn while they searched me," he said.

The attack lasted about two minutes.

"I felt I mustn't try be a hero by trying to kick at them," Mokoena, who was unarmed, said. His attackers told him: "Don't take a chance, my friend."

They then drove off in his vehicle, with the registration number JNR703GP.

Mokoena was not hurt and lauded the police, who responded to his call within 10 minutes.

The MP had returned home from Cape Town on a short recess from Parliament.

Meanwhile, Nkosi and his wife were sitting in their maroon VW Polo Classic outside a house in Senoaone, Soweto, at 6.10pm on Wednesday when four gunmen approached them and opened fire.

Nkosi was in a stable condition after six bullets were removed from his body during surgery N two from his chest, two from the abdomen and two from the right arm.

His wife was not injured in the attack.

The attackers fled without taking Nkosi's car after the MP returned fire. - Sapa
