Cape Town - A helicopter has been deployed to help firefighters extinguish a blaze which broke out on the slopes of Table Mountain near the 12 Apostles Hotel in the Bakoven area on Wednesday.

The City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service Service have deployed four fire engines, four water tenders as well as a rescue vehicle with 30 firefighters on board.

Cape Town Fire's Divisional Commander, Edward Bosch, said: "The fire is being fanned by a strong South Westerly wind and is mostly inaccessible at this stage."

People took to social media to post pictures and post the areas that are indirectly affected. According to tweeps, smoke could be seen and smelt from Maitland, Foreshore as well as Century City.
