Judge's widow wins appeal against murder conviction

Cape Town - Thandi Maqubela, who was convicted of murdering her huband, has won her appeal against her conviction in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.

In 2013 Maqubela was convicted of murdering her husband, Acting Judge Patrick Maqubela, whose body was discovered decomposing in his Bantry Bay flat in June 2009.

At the time it was suspected that he had been suffocated.

Maqubela was also found guilty of fraud and forgery in relation to her late husband’s will.

She was sentenced to an effective 18 years in jail, 15 years for the murder, and three for fraud and forgery.
