Cape Town - Staff and learners at a Cape Town school were in shock on Friday morning when armed robbers allegedly attacked the secretary and made off with her cellphone.

The incident happened at Salt River High School, Rochester Road just before 7am.

The shocked secretary was saved from further harm by an alert security guard, who apparently shouted so loudly that the suspects ran off.

According to the guard, the three men were each armed with a handgun and “they came out of nowhere”.

He says they fled the scene after taking the traumatised secretary’s cellphone.

“I saw them as they were taking the phone from her, I could not do anything, I was running after them as they left. I don’t know if they ran when I shouted or what,” said the guard.

Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Millicent Merton, confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that three men armed with guns robbed the secretary of her cellphone at 7:10am on Friday morning. They fled the scene,” said Merton.

Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said the alleged suspects were still at large.

“According to reports an unidentified man robbed the victim of a cellular phone. No one has been arrested at this stage,” says Rwexana.
