Cape Town - Framed in Cape Town's historic avenue near the St George's Cathedral and Parliament, the arch in honour of struggle icon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, was unveiled on Saturday as a symbol of his contribution to freedom.

Crowds gathered at the event broke out in song as they wished the smiling and cheerful Tutu well on his 86th birthday.

The Dalai Lama and singer Bono paid tribute to Tutu via a live video call.
