Durban – Durban woke to the news of a fire at the iconic Blue Waters hotel on South Beach.

A plume of smoke could be seen rising from the hotel building early on Wednesday morning.

Two people have been hospitalised for smoke inhalation and three others were treated at the scene after an electrical sub station caught alight after an apparent electrical fault.

Firefighters are still at the scene managing the small fire.

The building has been evacuated.

Rescue Care Paramedics said they were called to the scene just after 7.30am.

On their arrival they found the Durban Fire Department busy extinguishing the fire.

At this stage it is unclear what led up the fire, however, SAPS and Durban Fire Department will be doing a thorough investigation, the paramedics said.

Hotel management have declined to comment at this stage.
