This Women's Day we remember the women who have died violently at the hands of men in South Africa.
When a woman is killed every four hours, we can no longer remain passive. Your lives, and deaths, matter to us. IOL will keep reporting gender based violence. Every time a woman is beaten, raped and murdered we want all of South Africa to know about it. We will follow the cases so that these women do not become just another number, a statistic to be trotted out when it is time to report on the fight against crime.
We pledge to keep your names alive and to strive for a society where women no longer have to live in fear.
IOL dedicates this month, and our "We remember" series, to the 31 women we are featuring as well as the thousands whose deaths did not make headlines.
