Cape Town - A Cape Town woman is outraged after she “passed” her driver’s test, only for traffic bosses to tell her two days later she had in fact failed.

Retha Dreyer-Bothma even has a copy of the temporary driver’s permit issued to her at the Goodwood Driving Licence Testing Centre.

But officials are now saying the permit is invalid because they tallied up her scores incorrectly.

They say Dreyer-Bothma fell short of the pass mark by four points.

She is now refusing to pay for a follow-up test, saying she has already spent R10 000 on driving lessons and tests.

The 27-year-old mom said it was one of the happiest days of her life when she “passed” her driver’s test.

Dreyer-Bothma told the Daily Voice: “Wednesday was a huge day for me because I passed after three previous attempts. The traffic official was so happy for me she even gave me a hug.

“When I got home I even tore up my learner’s licence because I am now a legal driver.”

But her joy came to a dead end when she walked into her Montague Gardens place of work on Friday.

“As I walked into work, the receptionist congratulated me on getting my driver’s licence,” said Dreyer-Bothma.

“But at the same time the phone was ringing in my office. When I answered it a man from the traffic department told me I had in fact not passed.

“I was so shocked.

You don’t give a child a Christmas present and then tell them they have to give it back,” said the Parow woman.

She says she will not fork out any more cash because she has already put herself in debt.

“What they have done is completely unfair. Now they want me to redo the test at my own expense,” she said.

Traffic officials had not responded to enquiries by the Daily voice at the time of going to press.
