Cape Town – Police officers in Nyanga, Cape Town, arrested two men and recovered a stolen vehicle minutes after it had been hijacked nearby, Western Cape police said on Sunday.

Officers were on patrol in Fifth Avenue, Nyanga, when they noticed a vehicle with two occupants fitting the description and the registration number of a vehicle reported hijacked in Lingelethu minutes before, Lt-Col Andrè Traut said.

“Police signaled for the vehicle to stop, but it did not and a chase ensued which ended in the arrest of two suspects aged 24 and 28,” he said.

In a separate incident, five men were arrested on Friday while driving in a vehicle reported stolen in Doompark. The five men aged between 24 and 31 were also arrested in Nyanga.

All seven men were expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession of stolen vehicles, Traut said.
