Cape Town - Western Cape police are looking for four armed men who allegedly robbed 17 tourists while they visited a crèche in Khayelitsha on Monday.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said: "17 Swedish tourists, a tour guide and a driver were robbed at gunpoint by four armed suspects while they visited a crèche in Site C Khayelitsha.

"The suspects fled with personal effects and cash. Fortunately no one was injured."

Iliso Care Society Centre visitor liaison officer, Wanga Poni, said that two armed men stormed inside while he was explaining the history of the centre to the tourists.

"They ordered everyone to lie down. They searched everyone and ran off with belongings," he said.

Poni said another two armed accomplices were standing outside the gate.

He said that the children who witnessed the attack are still traumatised.

"They no longer want to sleep here now. They tell us they have nightmares."

Poni said it was the first time such an incident has happened at the creche.
