Cape Town - Three people died and four others were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles on Marine Drive, Paarden Island in Cape Town, early on Saturday morning, paramedics said.
“ER24 and Life Healthcare paramedics, as well as other services, arrived on scene and found one vehicle in [the] middle of [the] road and [the] other one that had rolled on the side of the road,” ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said in a statement.
“Three men had been ejected from one of the vehicles. They were assessed. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for them. They were declared dead.”
Two people from the same vehicle, as well as two from the other vehicle, were trapped. They were extricated by Metro Rescue and Fire and Rescue Services with the use of jaws of life and other rescue tools.
“They were assessed by paramedics. Two patients were found to have sustained critical injuries and two had sustained moderate injuries. They were treated and transported to local hospitals for further medical care,” Bodasing said.
The cause of the collision was unknown and authorities were on scene.
