Cape Town - Just two days after his home was raided by a police unit, Brigadier Mzwandile Tiyo’s home was raided again on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Tiyo, the former acting Western Cape crime intelligence head, had his Paarl home raided by the police Vehicle Identification Security System unit, who told him they had to verify that his vehicle’s licence plate number matched his engine number relating to a 2013 collision.

His lawyer, Richard Brown, slammed the Tuesday raid, calling it an act of victimisation against his client.

Tiyo was the complainant in the case against national police commissioner Riah Phiyega, who was investigated after Tiyo reportedly heard her allegedly tipping off Western Cape police commissioner Arno Lamoer that crime intelligence and the Hawks were investigating him.

Lamoer has since been accused of having a corrupt relationship with Cape Town businessman Salim Dawjee.

He, Dawjee and Brigadier Joe van der Ross, together with a married police couple, brigadiers Sharon and Kolindren Govender, face more than 109 charges including corruption, racketeering and money laundering.

Brown said they would be seeking an interdict and described the second raid as further victimisation.

“We are now fearful that police will want his arrest and will be approaching court for urgent relief in this regard.”

Brown said the police returned to look for a licence disc at Tiyo’s home that would prove that he was using a falsified licence plate, which Brown said Tiyo was entitled to do as part of his job.
